September Happenings

It has been a great summer and there is still much going on before the weather gets cold!  As August ends and September begins we will be at the Big Knob Fair where we will be ministering to people through prayer and conversation.  We hope to see you there!

We have several special speakers lined up for Sundays this month.  Pastor Mark will be sharing from the Gospel of Luke as usual on Sep 4.  The following week we will have a Gideon here to share with us about the work of distributing God's Word around the world.  This is something we are very passionate about and are directly involved in ourselves.  On Sep 18 Mark Samuel from Neighborhood Ministries in Ohio will be here to share with us an update on that ministry.  Then on Sep 25 Pastor Rock Olatounde Junior Otekpola, a church planter in Benin, Africa will be meeting and sharing with us.  We trust that each of these men will challenge and inspire us from God's Word.

In September we are also preparing for the Fall Good News Club that will meet in October and November; we are very much looking forward to seeing God work through that ministry this fall.

Please also see our regular list of gathering times on this webpage.

August Happenings

It has been a very busy summer so far.  Besides our regular weekly gatherings, we've been out on Street Prayer each week, helped at the New Brighton Soup Kitchen and Camp Judson's Summer Blast, and held our Summer Good News Club.  We have also been blessed with visits from our CRU missionaries, the Tung's, as well as our missionaries to Senegal, the Bosley's.

Here are some events for August:
It is our Home Missions month, meaning we will be taking special offerings for local ministries that we support including Tiger Pause, the Tower of Hope, and Neighborhood Ministries.

On Friday, August 12, our Celebrate Recovery ministry will be hosting a picnic on the street outside the church for anyone who would like to attend.  There is no cost to you for the food and Ginger Bowker will be singing during the picnic.

Street Prayer will continue each Wednesday.

We hope to see you in August!

May is a busy month and here are some of this month's highlights:

Friday, May 20 at 7:00pm Sheila Raye Charles will be here to share her heart wrenching story of abuse, crack cocaine and prison through her music and story of her personal journey to salvation.  You will be touched and inspired by this daughter of music legend Ray Charles as she shares her walk from despair and darkness into the love and forgiveness of the Lord.

Wednesday, May 11 & 18 we finish our spring session of the Good News Club at the Elementary School.  It has been a great semester and it is amaxing to see God at work in the hearts and lives of these precious young people.  Thank You, Lord for Your provision!

Sundays in May at 9:45am we worship and continue to experience the teaching, ministry, and life of Christ as we follow Him through pages of the Gospel of Luke.  We are currently in Luke 9.  After the worship service, we gather at 11:00am into small groups for discussion of the morning's passage as it relates to our daily lives and relationship with Christ our Saviour and Lord.

Tuesdays in May at 1:00pm we gather to celebrate our spiritual blessings from God through the New Testament Book of Ephesians. This Bible study began as a result of our Celebrate Recovery ministry on Friday nights.

Wednesdays in May at 7:00pm we gather again for prayer and another look at Ephesians; we always cover the same verses as on Tuesday, but the conversation is always a little different.

Fridays in May at 7:00pm we celebrate recovery from life's hurts, habits, resentments, and addictions.  We are just starting Step 4 and the Spiritual Inventory this month, which is an exciting and powerful opportunity to learn the truth about yourself and your situation from God's viewpoint.  And don't forget, God "delights in mercy" (Micah 7:18).

May 29 we launch our 8th year of Mission New Brighton.  Come and find out what new thing God is doing in 2016.  Our theme verse is Isaiah 43:19, "Behold, I will do a new thing.  Now it shall spring forth, shall you not know it?  I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert."

May the Lord bless you and we hope to see you this week!

March is a busy month.  Besides all of the regualar monthly services, Bible Studies, and events, here are some of this month's highlights:

Sunday, March 13 we are back to our regular service times and our missionaries from Cambodia, John and Debbie Coats, will be visiting with us.  This is also the day we switch to Daylight Saving Time so adjust those clocks!

Tuesday, March 15 at 6:30pm the ladies will gather for their monthly Bible Study.  What's new is a men's Bible Study that will take place at the same time.

Wednesday, March 23 is the day we host the New Brighton Soup Kitched which is held twice each week at Christ Episcopal Church.

Thursday, March 24 is our Holy Week Communion Service at 7pm.

Resurrection Sunday we have a SonRise Service at 7am with breakfast following.  Then at 10:30am we have our Worship Service and Cantata.

Tuesday, March 29 and Wednesday, March 30 our regular Bible studies start a new series on the New Testament Book of Ephesians.

May the Lord bless you and we hope to see you this week!

February 2016

We are entering the second month with our new Sunday Service times.  Having swapped our morning Worship service and Sunday School, we now have opportunity to discuss the passaged used for the sermon (we are currently in Luke 8).  So far, there has been very positive feedback from this change and the discussion time during Sunday School has been going very well.  The benefits of discussion after the sermon are numerous.

Our Sunday Good News Club teams are preparing for the start of a new childrens' ministry that will cover those who are nursery age up through 6th grade.  This new ministry builds upon three years of Good News Clubs at the local school and as our summer VBS ministries.  We are very excited about getting stated and trust the Lord will continue to prepare us for the work He has for us to do.

February is Winter Missions Offering which supports missionaries in Senegal, Africa, Cambodia, and Youngstown, OH.  We stay in close contact with our missionaries and are thankful to be part of this global effort to reach people with the Gospel of Christ.  You won't hear me asking for money for us, but I do encourage, and personally participate in supporting local, regional, and global Gospel missions.  I also encourage you to get personally envolved in procliaming the Gospel of Christ in our hometowns and neighborhoods.  There is a missionfild right outside your door.

Related to local missions, we continue giving away pocket New Testaments.  Every week we hear testimonies from those of us giving these out to people we know or meet during the week.  It is very exciting to see people giving and receiving the Word of God in this way.  If you recently received one of these New Testaments, please stop by and see us for one of our weekly services; we'd love to say hello and have some fellowship together.

Grace & Peace,
pastor mark

January 2016

As mentioned last month, we have swapped our Sunday School small group time and our morning worship service so that the worship time is first. The purpose of this change is to allow us to start things off with worship of our God and King, which includes a verse-by-verse message from the Gospel of Luke, followed by discussion and fellowship small group time focused on the same passage as the morning sermon. This gives opportunity for questions and conversation about the morning's topic.

The Worship time now starts at 9:45am and Sunday School at 11:00am.

This month we have our annual meeting on Sunday, January 17 after Sunday School. This is actually something I look forward to every year as we look back at what God has done over the past year and forward to what He will do this coming year. God never changes, but He is always at work changing each of us to be more like His Son, Jesus Christ, through whom we have redemption, salvation, forgiveness, purpose and new life. God is always changing us as a church as well, molding us and using us for His the advancement of His Kingdom. What a high privilage it is to be part of what He is doing. May it always be His glory and honor that we seek and reflect.

Our theme verse for 2016 is now posted at the top of this webpage; it is Isaiah 43:19. I look forward to walking that road with by brothers and sisters in Christ, and most of all with Christ our Lord leading the way.

Hope you will join us on Sunday!
